The department is headed by a Director General (BPS-20) under the umbrella of Cabinet Division. There is one Director (BPS-19) and 3 Deputy Directors (BPS-18). There are 106 different posts for different tasks relating to Record keeping, Conservation, Reprography,Digitization, Administration and Accounts.

The NAP has three Divisions:
